Bows & Braids Salon
07/11/22 - Ongoing
Background
The client was a freelancer that had just finished schooling and received her license. She wanted to create a salon business where she could provide hair braiding services to young children between the ages of 9 months to 12 years of age. She already had her logo, and personal suite but wasn’t getting a lot of customers.

Understanding the Problem
After actively listening to the client, I asked questions and took notes. After a few of our meetings, I concluded the problems faced were:
- She had no idea who her target audience was.
- No one knew where to find her or how to get in touch.
- You couldn't find her anywhere on Google.
- She had no website and no social media accounts
The Next Steps
After actively listening to the client, asking questions and taking notes, I concluded that the following things needed to be addressed:
-
Identifying Target Audience
We needed to figure out who her target audience was to establish the best social platforms to build reach and brand awareness
-
Building an Online Presence
She needed an official business website where people could book online appointments. She also needed to create social media accounts. This would help increase her credibility and provide a good path for growth.
The goal was to INCREASE BRAND AWARENESS and BOOST REACH to encourage visits to her suite within 3 MONTH’S TIME.
Strategic Approach
-
Conduct A Market Research Survey
The client already had a few clients of her own. So I suggested creating a survey for them to fill out. Through the survey we found that the client's target audience were women in their mid 30s to mid 40s with a household size of more than one child. Most were college educated. Many expressed the pain points of not having enough time to do their child's hair or not knowing how to braid themselves. And how hard it was to find someone who was willing to work with kids. We would use this information to bring awareness to 'Bows and Braids Salon.'
-
Building the Website
A 6-page wordpress website was built and designed based off of her vision for the company. Implemented a booking form that links to the client's google calendar and square account. The process took between 4-6 weeks before we started on an SEO strategy
-
Keyword Research
Created a seed list with targeted keywords. Used Keyword tools like Keywords Everywhere, UberSuggest, Moz, SEMrush. Researched the SERPs. Made comparisons with three other hair braiding competitors. Found that there weren't many that did braiding for kids. Focused on longtail keywords like 'kids braids greensboro' and 'hair braiding greensboro nc'.
-
SEO Strategy
Created meta titles and descriptions. Linked Google Search Console to Google Analytics. Installed and configured an SEO plugin, RANK Math. Installed Google Site Kit plugin. Generated and submited an XML sitemap.
-
Google My Business Profile
Created a Google My Business page and linked website, added business, hours, photos, etc.
-
Facebook & Instagram Reach
Based on target audience and nature of business, I suggested creating a business Instagram account and a Facebook business page. The two were then linked through Meta Business Suite.
Social Media Strategy
Social Media Goals:Â
Achieve Brand Awareness
Drive appointment sales
Post Frequency:
Schedule was set for minimum 3x per week + 3x week with stories on both Instagram and Facebook. Posts would consist of:
- braid hairstyles on kids the client had done
- carousel posts providing tips on how to maintain children’s braids and natural hair care
- Announcements (these would also be used for stories)
Â
Engagement was important so every other week time was spent commenting and engaging with other accounts related to the interests of her target audience.
Other Suggestions:
Consider a blog to help with repurposing content on social media and SEO.
Using client reviews and behind the scene interactions with child clients in stories.
Facebook Ads
We ran an ad for a Back-to-School Campaign. We had the ad run during business hours throughout the month of August and targeted ages 25 to 45 who had an interest in hair, beauty, cosmetics, and were parents with children between the age range of toddlers to preteens. We gained 53 clicks to the website and 62 post engagements.
